Sheffield is historically known as an industrial city. It was famous for producing cutlery and steel. What used to be an industrial town is now a modern thriving city – not too big to get lost in and not too small to feel stuck in! It has great shopping, amazing night life and fabulous restaurants such as the delicious kebab shops perfect at any time of day: a study break or a quick lunch. All these different restaurants add to the international flavor of Sheffield. In terms of tourist attractions, we have the Winter Gardens, the Weston Park Museum and for theatre lovers, the crucible theatre. Sheffield is also known as one of the UK’s greenest cities and has lovely parks scattered all around the city. Not too far off, Sheffield has the beautiful Peak District, famous across the UK for its landscape of mountains and lakes. The university itself is ranked in the top 20 universities of the UK in terms of academic quality. Furthermore the University of Sheffield was voted as having the best Students’ Union three years in a row and was also ranked top for Student Experience in 2014. Furthermore one of our most famous alumni is Jospeh Marcell best known for his role as Geoffrey the Butler in The Fresh Prince of Bel-air.
