Campaigns & Welfare

Campaigns

Are you motivated to help the community? Do you strive to make a safer, healthier and more peaceful planet? Then look no further! The International Students’ Committee encourages you to take matters in your own hand and see the results for yourself. We at the ISC strongly believe in the betterment of the society. We aim to achieve this by active campaigning and representation for the community. This year we have shifted our focus to certain minority groups within the University. With each of the reps having their own portfolio, we aim to target as many of these groups as we can. These campaigns aim to increase awareness and further help increase integration within University. Some of the targeted campaigns include:

  • LGBT
  • SIC students
  • Womens
  • ELTC students
  • Sports
  • Education
  • Disabilites (DDSS)
  • Mature Students

Welfare

The Welfare sub-committee has a dedicated group of members who continuously help and support our endeavors. Along with executing the rep portfolios, the welfare committee will regularly host weekly meetings chaired by the Campaigns and Inclusions officer to plan and organise various other events throughout the year. Example of events and campaigns that have been carried out include:

– Hate-crime campaign
– Fundraising for victims of the Philippines typhoon
– Selling sweets at the union to help fundraise for victims in a bomb blast in a village in Pakistan
– ISC Football World Cup

The welfare committee, along with supporting various causes throughout the year, adopts two charities each year to which we donate any revenue at the end of the academic year. Last year the two charities that were supported by us were Children with Cancer UK and MOBA, which is an organisation based in Bosnia. We look forward to continue working with them this year too!

All this may seem a bit daunting, but it is not all about work. The welfare committee regularly hosts socials for its members to help celebrate some of the hard work and effort put in by its members. So come along and make a difference, we promise it will be fun!
